Description

This clock was made by the Dutch potter company Zuid-Holland from Gouda in the period 1901-1907. The object is painted with a beautiful P-decor with wisteria. This is model 372, a large clock of 41 cm or 16.1 inch high, 28.5 cm or 11.2 inch wide and 13 cm or 5.1 inch deep. The clock has the original (working) clockwork of the Fortmann company from The Hague. The original pendulum and (new) key for winding the mechanism, are present. The clock is painted and signed by Francien Sanderus. She was one of the most prominent P-decor painters of the Gouda pottery factory Zuid-Holland. The P-decor was introduced in 1901 in response to the launch of the very successful and expensive eggshell porcelain of the Rozenburg factory from The Hague. The P-decor is characterized by the fact that the decor is made up of very fine lines and dots. This is also called ‘kantjes’. The clock is well signed with the words: Made in Zuid-Holland, the logo of the Lazarusgate, an indication for the decor: P/b and the signature of Francien Sanderus (FS). The model number is carved into the inside of the clock: M 372. The clock is almost in a very good condition. On the inside of one of the corners is a minuscule small chip, which is absolutely not visible (except when you turn the clock upside down).
