Description

This little ewer was made by the Dutch pottery factory Zuid-Holland from Gouda, in the period between 1901 and 1902. The object is small in size. It is model 341 measuring 14 cm or 5.5 inch high and 6.5 cm or 2.6 inch wide. The object is painted with a beautiful P-decor or ‘kantjes’ decor. This decor is characterised by the fact that it is composed entirely of fine lines and dots. The Gouda pottery factory Zuid-Holland introduced this decor in 1901 to compete with the very popular and expensive eggshell porcelain from it’s competitor, Rozenburg from The Hague. The ewer has blue cornflowers, painted by Johannes Stam. This is clearly visible from the signature on the bottom of the object (JS). There you will also see the Lazarus Gate, the words: Made in Zuid-Holland and a reference to the decor: P/B. The object is in neat condition, it has had a restoration on the spout in the past. There is nothing left to see of that now.
