Description
This vase is an early example of Gouda Pottery. The vase was made by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland from Gouda and dates from 1898 or 1899. The vase has a beautiful decoration of a violet and a tulip in purple tones, against a background of green, turquoise and cobalt blue. The vase is 23 cm or 9 inches high and has a width of 10 cm or 4 inches. The vase is marked with the letter B, this is an indication of a very early piece of Gouda pottery, since these extra letters (to indicate the decor per model) were only used in the first two years of production 1897-1899. Youi also see the factory logo – the Lazarus gate – and the words Gouda and Zuid-Holland. The vase has model 14 and was painted by Cornelis van Straaten, who worked at the Gouda pottery factory between 1898 and 1907. The vase is in excellent condition and has no damage, except for a flea bite on the neck, which is nearly invisible with the naked eye.
