Description

This large antique pottery vase was made by the Dutch pottery and tile company De Distel from Amsterdam, in the period between 1895 and 1906. The vase is large, heavy and especially wide and measures 24 cm or 9.4 inch in height and 27 cm or 10.6 inch in width. This is model 52, with a decoration of blue flowers (probably gentian) and green leaves. The decoration on the side against the ears is beautiful, th ears end in small points. The vase is in good condition. One of the points has had a small knock and there is a minuscule damage. Furthermore, the vase has some glaze errors and irregularities (but this is how it was made). The vase is well signed with the factory name: Distel, the model and decoration number: 52/2 and two signatures, one of which belongs to Cornelis de Bruin. De Bruin was artistic director of the Amsterdam pottery Distel before 1906 and was responsible for many of the designs and decors.
