Description
This vase was produced by the Dutch pottery form DKP, the Dordtsche Kunstpotterij, based in Dordrecht (near Rotterdam). The factory had a short lifespan, having been founded in 1903 and ceasing production in 1908. The founders’ objective was to create Art Nouveau-style pottery, for which they recruited two prominent designers: Cornelis de Bruin (formerly of De Distel in Amsterdam) and Jan van der Vet (formerly of Rozenburg in The Hague). The vase features a geometric design in blue and ochre-yellow against a white background. It is model number 26, measuring 24.5 cm or 9.6 inch in height and 17 cm or 6.7 inch in width. The vase bears clear markings: on the underside, one can see the letters ‘DKP’ along with the words ‘Dordrecht Holland’. Also present are the number ’26’ and the letters ‘K/IT’, likely a reference to the specific pattern and the artist who painted it. The vase is in excellent, undamaged condition and is part of the Meentwijck Collection.
