Brantjes Purmerend, vase model 1022 with landscape, poppies and butterflies

Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery factory Firma Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co from Purmerend in the period 1897-1904. It is model 1022 and is 18.3 cm or 7.2 inch high and 8.5 cm or 3.3 inch wide. It has a unique Brantjes decor with a landscape. You see a lake, a field and mountains, framed by a decor of poppies and butterflies. The quality of the painting is truly phenomenal. This decor is indicated with the letter H. A similar vase is depicted in the book ‘Purmerends Jugendstil Aardewerk 1895-1907’ on page 69. The object is well signed with the name of the factory: Faience de Purmerende Hollande, the logo of the clog and the monogram of Nicolaas Brantjes: NB. You can also see the model number 1022 and the decor: H. The vase is signed by GS (unknown). The vase is in mint condition.
