Brantjes Purmerend, vase with ears, model 1082, with tall handles and a yellow iris decoration.

Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery firm Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co. from Purmerend. The vase is 24 cm ( 9.4 inch) high and 18.5 cm (7.3 inch) wide. This is model 1082, a vase with a wide foot, a rounded belly, and two handles that extend all the way from the foot to the narrow neck. The vase is painted with decoration A, a depiction of yellow irises and green leaves against a brown and gray background. The vase is well marked. The words ‘Faience de Purmerende Hollande’ are visible on the bottom. Just like a drawing of a clog with the abbreviation NB, the logo of Brantjes Purmerend. You will also see a reference to the model number: 1082, the decor: A and the signature R.W. by an unknown painter. The vase is also marked with a C, which could indicate a date letter and then the vase would have been made in 1898. The vase is in a very neat condition. One handle has a thin crack. This is not disturbing (for those who do find it, a professional restorer would know what to do with it). A very similar vase (with almost the same marking) can be found in the book ‘Purmerend Jugendstil aardewerk’ on page 106.
