Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Zuid-Holland from Gouda in 1918. The vase is model 583, a bottle-shaped vase with a rounded belly, 31.8 cm or 12.5 inch high and 16 cm or 6.3 inch wide. The vase is decorated with a NP design depicting a bird. NP stands for ‘Nieuw Porcelein’ (New Porcelain) and was a very popular design launched in 1908. These bird designs also appears in a matte version (Matt Vogel design, or MV), but were later produced in high gloss ceramics. The matte version is quite common; the high gloss version is much rarer. The vase was painted by Catharina Riparon, who worked at the Gouda pottery factory Zuid-Holland between 1911 and 1922. The vase is in neat condition. The neck has undergone professional restoration in the past, near the rim.
