Description
Perhaps small in size, but great in detail. This little ewer, made by the Gouda pottery factory Zuid-Holland from The Netherlands, has a beautiful P-decor. The quality of the painting is unprecedented and the mastery of the unknown painter (signed S) is great. The ewer is model 340 from the Gouda pottery factory and measures 12.6 cm or 4.9 inches in height and 8.7 cm or 3.4 cm in width. The object was made in the period between 1901 and 1905. It is painted in a P-decor or ‘kantjes decor’ that is made up of fine, wavy lines. On a green and yellow background you see red poppy flowers, with graceful black lines and striking white seed pods and star-shaped decorations. The ewer has a small hairline on the neck about 1.5 cm or 0.6 inch long, which is visible both on the outside and inside. Fortunately, the ear is completely intact. The ewer is signed with the factory logo and the monogram of the unknown painter S.
