Description

This wall charger was made by the Dutch pottery factory Zuid-Holland from Gouda. It is model 1, with a diameter of 18 cm or 7 inches. The wall charger is painted with a beautiful P-decor, or ‘kantjes’ decoration with blackberries, yellow blossoms, brown branches and leaves and coloured areas in green and red tones, which are composed of a fine pattern of thin wavy lines. This P-decor was brought onto the market by the Gouda factory to compete with the very popular and expensive eggshell porcelain of the Rozenburg pottery factory in The Hague. The plate is painted by Michel van der Heidt and signed as such. The wall plate was produced between 1908 and 1917 and is in very good condition. There is no visible damage, but the outer edge has some minor discolourations (blue dots) and a minuscule piece of glaze is missing. The surface of the wall charger does have a beautiful pattern of craquelure.
This charger will be part of an exhibition in the near future, and is therefor not for sale at the moment.
There are other items in the shop with the same decor.
