Description

This beautiful vase is 41 cm or 16 inch high and the widest part at the ears is 19 cm or 7,5 inch. It is a stunning vase from Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland from Gouda. Green patterns are painted on a midnight blue background, presumably a stencil was used for the design. Working with stencils was not common in the early years of production. On top of the background, like the cherry on a cake, is a beautiful purple flower. Front and back show almost the same decor. The vase is signed with the factory logo, the model number 5007 and the letters LM, which most likely refer to Leendert Muller, who worked at the factory from 1898. This vase is probably slightly older, around 1903-1907. Leendert Muller painted this object at the start of his career at the Dutch ceramic factory, where he worked until 1936. He ultimately became head designer and made a notable contribution to Dutch ceramic design. There is probably some damage. The top of the neck shows traces of restoration (see photos). Furthermore, the vase is in good condition, without visible shards, chips or glaze damage. The vase was once part of the Spijker Collection, one of Hollands most notable ceramic collectors.
