Description
This antique vase with a big handle was made by the Zuid-Holland pottery from Gouda in the period 1901-1902. The object is beautifully painted in a P decor. The painter is Jacob Schoonhoven, who only worked for Zuid-Holland for a very short time. This is a P/B decor. The P stands for porcelain, and the B for this type of decor with yellow flowers, green leaves and coloured surfaces, which are entirely made up of fine lines. The handle vase is model 171, a wide vase of 23 cm or 9 inches, with a handle that runs completely across the width. The highest point at the handle is 25 cm or 9.8 inches. The vase has been restored. You can see on a part of the neck that the craquelure does not run all the way across the surface. This also applies to the handle. But it was done very skillfully and the restoration is barely visible to the naked eye. The vase is signed with the logo of the Gouda pottery factory. The words: Made in Zuid-Holland, the letter P/B for the decor and Schoonhoven’s signature: JS.
