Description
This very large and impressive Gouda pottery vase is 46 cm or 18.1 inch high, it is a real eye-catcher. The object was made in the period between 1900 and 1907 by the Dutch pottery company Zuid-Holland from Gouda. This is model 5013, a vase with a square foot of 14 cm or 5.5 inch wide, which ends in a round neck with two graceful ears on either side. The vase is painted by Michel van der Heidt in a typical early Gouda decor. You see irises in a graceful pattern, so characteristic of the Art Nouveau period. The vase has a great colour scheme of dark blue, beige, turquoise and various shades of green. The purple and red flower are a beautiful contrast. There are striking flower details along the entire length of the neck. The vase is well signed. You see the words: Made in Zuid-Holland, the Lazaruspoortje and the signature of Van der Heidt (vdH). The model number is carved into the biscuit of the vase: 5013, just like an H. The vase is in good condition. Base and ears are perfect. Only the neck has a small crack, visible on the front, but this is well hidden in the pattern of craquelure and is therefor not disturbing.
