Rozenburg The Hague, ‘turban’ lidded vases (model 25), designed by Theo Colenbrander. This pair was made in 1895 and features a painted design in green, brown, and yellow.

Description

This pair of small lidded vases was produced by the Dutch pottery company Rozenburg from The Hague (Den Haag). It is model 25, a design also known as the ‘turban pul’ (tulbandpul). Including the lids, the vases stand 25 cm or 10.6 inch tall. The pair is decorated with an imaginative pattern in shades of brown, green, and yellow. Turban lidded vases are a well-known design by Theo Colenbrander. He served as the artistic director of the Rozenburg factory from 1884 to 1889, designing both the shapes and the decorative patterns. Colenbrander is particularly renowned for his cabinet sets, a series of objects designed to adorn the tops of cabinets or mantelpieces. These turban lidded vases belonged to this category of objects and were often combined with slender vases to form sets of four or five pieces. This pair dates to 1895, as indicated by the date letter ‘M’ on the underside of the vases. Production records for work order number 361 list Römer as the painter. The set is in good condition; one vase has a small chip on the foot and on the inside of the neck, while the other covered vase is in perfect condition.

This set is not for sale and is part of my private collection. I am looking for more pieces in this pattern, so if you would like to sell one to me, please get in touch.
