Description

This ewer was made by the Rozenburg Pottery Factory from The Hague in the Netherlands and was produced in the year 1895. The ewer has a beautiful decor of abstract shapes and floral patterns in brown, beige and green tones on an almost midnight blue background. The object is 23 cm or 9 inches high and 17 cm or 6.7 inches wide and is in excellent condition. Both the foot, the ear and the beak of the jug are in perfect condition. As far as it is known, the object has never been restored. A small piece of glaze is missing in the beak and a ‘flea bite’ is visible (see photos).
The ewer is signed with the name of the pottery factory: Rozenburg Den Haag, the logo of the stork and the M+ mark, which stands for the year of production 1895. The ceramic ewer is signed with the mark of J. Francken, a painter who worked at Rozenburg between September 1894 and September 1896.
