Description

This vase was made by the Dutch Art Pottery Factory Zuid-Holland from Gouda, the Netherlands in the period between 1898 and 1904. Not much is known about the vase, because the markings on the bottom are difficult to read. If you look closely you can see the monogram JK, which belongs to Johannes Kool. Kool worked at the Gouda pottery factory between 1898 and 1908. But this is an early decor. So the vase is estimated to been made between 1998 and 1904. The vase once belonged to the Spijker collection, one of the most notable Dutch Art Pottery collectors in the Netherlands. The vase is model 72, a very rare model from the Gouda factory, and painted in an asymmetrical, almost abstract decor with purple-blue flowers and buds. The vase has a different decor from different angles. A beautiful example of early Gouda in a great color combination of black, blue, green, red-brown, beige and ocher yellow. The vase is 29 cm or 11,4 inch high and 15 cm or 6 inch wide. The object is in a good condition. There has been a professional restoration to the neck and foot in the past, but this cannot been seen with the naked eye.
