Description
This ewer was made by the Dutch Rozenburg Pottery Company from The Hague. It was made between November 13 and 20, 1896. This is model 394, a ewer with a square body, a short, round handle, and a broad beak. The object is 19.5 cm or 7.6 inch high and 14 cm or 5.5 inch wide. The object is painted with a swan flower decoration, a typical Dutch aquatic plant found along streams and ponds. The bottom of the ewer is clearly marked with the Rozenburg factory logo, in the shape of a stork, and the words: Rozenburg Den Haag. You can also see the year mark for 1896: NK# and the work order number: 56. Research in the work order books of the Hague municipal archives reveals the names for this work order: MacKaay, Vet, and J. Hartgring. The ewer has a visible crack along the underside of one side of the beak (the other side is intact).
