Description

This pair of vases was made by the factory of Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes and Co from the Dutch city of Purmerend, in the period between 1895 and 1904. It is model 1016, a pair of cylindrical vases of 27.5 cm or 10.8 inch high. The vases have a thickening at the foot and become narrower at the neck. The vases are painted with a beautiful decoration of nasturtium. You see yellow flowers and the star-shaped leaves of the plant, against a beige background. On the foot and neck the background is dark green and dark brown. The vases are in good condition. One of the vases has a minuscule crack in the neck, which runs away under the paint. It is probably an old restoration. But that can only be seen with a magnifying glass. The vases are well marked with the name of the factory, the decoration number: F, the model number: 1016 and the some monograms. A similar vase is depicted in the book ‘Purmerend Jugendstil Aardewerk 1895-1907’ on page 63.
