Zuid-Holland Gouda, bottle-shaped vase, model 310, with NP decor of yellow flowers

Zuid-Holland Gouda, bottle-shaped vase, model 310 of 30 cm high, with NP decoration of yellow flowers, made in the period 1908-1914

Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Zuid-Holland from Gouda in the period 1908-1914. The vase is 29.8 cm or 11.7 inch high and 10 cm or 3.9 inch wide. The vase has a bottle-shaped design with a wide foot, a round belly and a very long, narrow neck. This is model 310 from the Zuid-Holland pottery factory. The vase is painted with an NP-decor of yellow flowers and green leaves. The NP-decor was introduced in Gouda in 1908 to replace the P-decor. The P-decor was introduced in 1901 in response to the success of Rozenburg eggshell porcelain. Decors consisted of superfine lines and dots and were very labor-intensive. The NP-decor is somewhat simpler, and also does not cover the entire object. You see a yellow flower on the front and back, consisting of fine dots and surrounded by green leaves. Between the leaves you see the typical NP-decor elements or the ‘kantjes decor’, as it is also called. These are fine lines, dots and circles, scattered throughout the design. The vase is signed with the words: Zuid-Holland Gouda, the logo of the Lazaruspoortje and a reference to the model number: 310. This number is also scratched into the bottom. You can also see the signature of the painter: CV (name unknown). The vase is in perfect condition except for a tiny chip on the neck. This vase belonged to the Spijker collection.
