Description

This tall lidded vase was made by the Hague pottery factory Rozenburg in 1895 or 1896. It is the lidded vase from the well-known series (see photo below), designed by Theo Colenbrander. Unfortunately, the other parts from this set are missing. This lidded vase is therefore a one-off. It is an impressive vase, about 62 cm or 24.4 inch high and 20 cm or 7.8 inch wide. The vase is painted in a random and abstract pattern of beige, brown and black tones. The decor is called: Lelie (lily). The vase is well signed with the words: Rozenburg Den Haag (hard to read), the decor name Lelie and the work order number: 636. Unfortunately, the year mark is hard to read. This could be an M for 1895 or an NK for 1896. The vase has probably undergone a restoration on the belly in the past. You can see that because the glaze is a bit duller in some places and the craquelure is missing. The lid has a beautiful shine, but unfortunately a crack just below the point. This could be restored very well. Due to its size, this Rozenburg object is a real eye catcher!
