Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery and tile factory Amphora Holland from Oegstgeest, near Leiden, in the period around 1910. The vase is painted with a wonderful decoration of birds and flowers. You can see that Amphora got its inspiration from it’s competitor in Gouda, because the decoration is very similar to the P-decor of Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland, which consists entirely of fine lines and dots. This decoration is also painted in a wonderful colour palette of different pastel shades. The vase has a clear front with the bird and flowers are painted on the back. The bird decoration was designed by Theo Verstraaten. The vase is 22 cm or 8.7 inch high and 23 cm or 9.1 inch wide. This is model 69 with two ears next to a flared neck. The vase is well marked with the name of the factory: Amphora Holland. You can also see the mention ‘Model, 578-3-8,5’. This probably refers to the decoration. The vase is not signed and is in excellent condition. Only the neck has a firing error and the glaze has a slight discolouration (probably nicotine) on the back of the vase (see photo).
