Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Zuid-Holland in Gouda between 1901 and 1907. It is model 188, a unique design with a square base, a round neck, and beautiful curves in the body. The vase is 22.6 cm (8.9 inch) high and 10.7 cm (4.2 inch) wide. The vase is painted in a beautiful P-decor. The ‘P’ stands for porcelain, and the porcelain pattern was introduced by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland in 1901 to compete with Rozenburg’s very popular and expensive eggshell porcelain. This vase is made of earthenware; only Rozenburg’s decorative technique of fine lines and dots was ‘adopted’. The vase has blue and green colour panels, composed of fine, wavy lines. Towards the neck, the background is composed of yellow dots. On it, you see blue morning glory flowers, with branches and leaves. Because of the fine lines and dots, this pattern is also called ‘kantjes’ (little lace). The vase is clearly signed with the words: “Made in Zuid-Holland.” You can see the Gouda pottery’s company logo: the Lazarus gate. You can also see the designation for the decoration: P/B, the name IJsel, which also refers to the decoration, and the signature NS, by an unknown artist. The vase is completely pristine and in excellent condition.
