Description

This vase was made by the Faïance and tile factory ‘Holland’ from the city of Utrecht. This factory is also known as ‘Mijnlieff’, after its owner and director Jan-Willem Mijnlieff. The factory produced pottery between 1896 and 1905. This vase must have been made sometime during this period. This can also be seen in the beautiful paintings, which are so closely in line with the prevailing fashion at the time: Art Nouveau, also known as Jugendstil. You can especially see this in the elegant shapes of the painting with lotus flowers. It is not known who painted the vase. The vase is 24.4 cm or 9.6 inches high and 12.6 or 4.9 inches wide. The vase has a turquoise background and is painted in a beautiful palette of green and brown colours. The lotus flowers are beige-gray and lilac. The vase is well signed with the factory logo. The vase is in neat condition. The neck has undergone a restoration. This cannot be seen with the naked eye.
