Vase with a special square design by the Distel Amsterdam, painted by Cornelis de Bruin
Vase with a special square design by the Distel Amsterdam, painted by Cornelis de Bruin, between 1895 and 1905.
Description
It is a true work of art, this vase. Made by the Dutch pottery factory De Distel from Amsterdam, in the period between 1895 and 1905. The vase is 19.5 cm or 7.6 inches high and 12 cm or 4.7 inches wide. It has a square base, a square belly and a square neck. A square bulge can also be seen halfway down the neck. Yet the vase has many round shape elements, especially in the space between the squares. These curves are further emphasized in the painting. The decor has symmetrical figures in a beautiful colour scheme: purple blue, ocher yellow, olive green and dark brown. The vase is signed on the bottom. You see (vaguely) the name of the factory: Distel. A number (unfortunately illegible) and the signature of Cornelis de Bruin. The vase is in excellent condition.
The vase is not for sale and belongs to my private collection.
