Description

This ewer was made by Dutch pottery factory Zuid-Holland from Gouda in the early period, between 1899 and 1904. It is model 337, a wide and low jug with an elegant handle and a short spout. The ewer is painted in a typical early Gouda decor with purple violets and beautiful elegant patterns, so typical of the Art Nouveau period. The jug has a beautiful colour combination of dark green, light green, dark blue and purple. The object is 10 cm or 3.9 inches high and 13.5 cm or 5.3 inches wide. Because the glaze on the back, near the base of the handle, has a slightly different sheer, this jug has presumably been restored in the past. The spout and foot are in good condition. The object is well signed. You see the Lazarus Gate and the words: Made in Zuid-Holland. The model number is also scratched into the bottom: 337. Unfortunately, the painter’s signature is illegible.
