Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Rozenburg from The Hague in June 1897. This is model 179, a tall vase with a wide foot and a narrow neck, 40 cm (15.7 inch) high and 18 cm (7 inch) wide. The vase is painted with a decoration of carnations; a striped pattern is visible at the top of the neck and at the bottom of the foot. Between the floral decorations, the background is painted with small dots. The vase is well signed with the name: Rozenburg Den Haag, the year mark for 1897 (K#), and the work order number: 488. This work order was found in the work order books, along with the names of various pottery painters: Matla, Vonk, Schellink, MacKay, and Verstraten. Therefore, it is unclear who painted the vase. The vase is in very good condition, after restoration. There was damage to the foot and neck, which has been neatly repaired, and the damage and the restorations themselves are invisible to the naked eye. A small piece of glaze is loose on one side of the vase (see photo).
