Description

This pair of vases was made by the Dutch pottery firm Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co. from Purmerend between 1895 and 1904. This pair is model 1016, which are cylindrical vases with a rounded base and a narrowing neck. The vases are painted with a decoration of blue flowers and green leaves against a yellow background. Greenish-gray tulips are also visible near the neck. Both vases are 27.5 cm high (10.8 inch) and 10.5 cm (4.1 inch) wide. The vases are well signed. You can see the clog, the logo of the firm Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co., and the letters NB (for Niclaas Brantjes). The inscription: Faience de Purmerende Hollande. The signature of the pottery painter D.J. Raap is clearly visible. The letter B (possibly the date letter for 1896) and an indication of the decoration: Dec. E. Finally, the model number: 1016 is clearly visible. Both vases have some spots where the glaze did not adhere properly. One vase is intact, although the neck has some rough spots (glaze flakes). The other vase has undergone professional restoration of a chip on the neck. This developed into a crack and has been neatly restored. It is no longer visible to the naked eye.
Elsewhere in the shop, there is also a pair of vases with model 1016 and a different decoration (F).
