Description

This little vase was made by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland in Gouda between 1908 and 1910. The vase is only 12 cm or 4,7 inch tall and is beautifully painted in a P-decor with blackberries and flowers. This design was very popular with the Gouda pottery factory and can be found on various objects. The P-decor was introduced in 1901 by Zuid-Holland in response to the successful eggshell porcelain of its competitor Rozenburg from The Hague. Although Zuid-Holland introduced a new design in 1908, the NP design (new porcelain), the popular blackberry design (design number 243) remained in production for several more years. The vase is well signed with the words “Zuid-Holland Gouda,” the Zuid-Holland factory mark — the Lazarus gate — and the markings for model number 346 and decor number 243. You can also see the signature of an unknown pottery painter: NS. The vase is in good condition. No damage or restorations have been observed.
