Description
This bowl is a fine example of a very early piece of Gouda pottery, made by Plateelfabriek Zuid-Holland from the city of Gouda in The Netherlands. The bowl features a symmetrical pattern of red tulips on a green background and a black-blue base. The bowl was painted by Dirk Verhaar, who worked as a pottery painter at the Gouda factory between 1897 and 1899. The bowl is marked C, which refers to the decoration on this object. These letter codes were only used during the first two years of production, so this bowl was made between 1897 and 1899. The bowl is model 52, with a diameter of 19 cm (9.5 inch) and a height of 6 cm (2.3 inch). It is an early model from the pottery factory and is in excellent condition. There is no visible damage, apart from some minor scratches due to age.
