Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Zuid-Holland in Gouda between 1900 and 1904. It is model 83, a narrow cylindrical vase with a slightly flared neck. The vase is 23.5 cm or 9.2 inches high and the neck is 9 cm or 3.5 inches wide. Franciscus Fonville painted this vase in a typical Gouda poppy decor, using a colour palette of yellow, green, brown, and purple hues. The vase is well signed with the words “Made in Zuid-Holland,” the Zuid-Holland factory logo (the Lazarusgate in Gouda), and Fonville’s signature: the F. The model number 83 is incised in the bottom. The vase is in good condition except for a small chip at the base of the neck (underside). Elsewhere in the webshop, you’ll find a similar vase, with a similar shape and decoration: model 24 of 28 cm high.
