Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Zuid-Holland from the city of Gouda. It is an early example from the period between 1900 and 1905. This is model 22, a bottle-shaped vase, which is strongly influenced by Orientalism in its design. This is especially visible in the ears. The vase is 29.5 cm or 11.6 inch high and 17 cm or 6.7 inch wide. The vase is painted in a decor with poppies. You see purple flowers, green leaves and on the neck a green seed box and red flower buds of the poppy. The contrast with the bright yellow, beige and dark blue background colour is beautiful. The vase is painted and signed by Johannes Hartgring. The vase is well marked. You see the words: Made in Holland, the Lazarus gate (Zuid-Holland Gouda’s logo) and the signature of Johannes Hartgring: J.H. The model number (22) is carved into the earthenware on the bottom of the vase. The vase is in mint consition. A similar model is available elsewhere in the shop, in a different colour scheme, painted by Leendert Muller. Click here>>
