Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Firma Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co from Purmerend in the period between 1895 and 1904. This is model 1026, a vase with wide ears that run almost the entire length of the vase. The vase is 21.5 cm or 8.4 inch high and 25 cm or 9.8 inch wide. The vase is painted in a polychrome decor with red flowers. You see green leaves against a light blue and beige background, a beautiful colour combination! This is decor: E, as indicated on the bottom of the vase. A similar vase is in the book ‘Purmerends Jugendstil Aardewerk’ on page 76. The vase is well signed with the name of the factory: Faience de Purmerende Hollande, the model number: 1026 and decor number: E, and the signature of an unknown painter: BL. The vase is in very good condition. The edge of the wide neck has a small spot of glaze damage and a spot where the green paint has not taken (see photos). You can also see a few minuscule spots of glaze damage on the sharp edge of the ears, but these are not visible to the naked eye.
