Gouda pottery vase model 251, with floral decor in soft pastels, made between 1900-1902
Gouda pottery vase model 251, with floral decor in soft pastels, made between 1900-1902.
Description
This antique Dutch Gouda pottery vase was made by the Zuid-Holland pottery company in the early period of it’s existance between 1900 and 1902. The vase is 30 cm or 11.8 inch high and 19 cm or 7.5 wide. The vase is painted with a floral decor of nasturtiums with pastel-coloured flowers, in purple, light orange and light blue tones. You also see grayish green leaves and tendrills against a beige background. Only the bottom of the vase is dark. The early period of the Gouda pottery company Zuid-Holland is mainly characterised by dark-coloured pottery. This vase is very atypical for Zuid-Holland Gouda and therefore a real asset to my collection. Furthermore, the elegant lines of the decor fit very well with the prevailing fashion at the time: Art Nouveau or Jugendstil. The vase is signed with the words: Made in Zuid-Holland. You will also see the factory logo (the Lazarus Gate) and the signature of Willem Wolbers van Doornen (WW), who painted the vase. You also see the numbers 251, a reference to the fashion number of this bottle-shaped vase with a wide belly. The vase is in perfect condition.
This vase is not for sale and belongs to my private collection
