Gouda pottery, vase model 5008 with hexagonal body, painted by Charlotte Delchambre with a decoration of blackberries and yellow flowers, period 1907-1914
Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery factory Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland from Gouda during the period 1907-1914. This is model 5008, a model with a hexagonal body that tapers into a narrow round neck with two handles. The vase is 40.4 cm or 15.9 inch high and 17 cm or 6.7 inch wide and is painted with a beautiful P-decor of blackberries and yellow blossoms. This P-decor is entirely composed of fine lines and was introduced to the market in 1901 to compete with the popular, but very expensive, eggshell porcelain of competitor Rozenburg from The Hague. In 1907, the P-decor (‘P’ stands for porcelain) was replaced by a new variant: NP-decor (new porcelain). Probably due to its popularity, this decoration featuring blackberries and yellow blossoms remained in production until the start of the First World War. The vase was painted by Charlotte Delchambre and is clearly marked with the words: Zuid-Holland Gouda, the Lazarus gate (factories logo), and a reference to the model number: 5008 and the decoration number: 243. The object is in excellent condition. No damage or restorations have been observed. The vase originates from the Meentwijck Collection, one of the most renowned Art Deco and Art Nouveau collection in the Netherlands.
