Holland Utrecht Wall charger, 43 cm with a decor of butterflies and flowers

Holland Utrecht or Mijnlieff pottery wall charger, model 302 with a diameter of 43 cm. Decorated with butterflies and flowers, period 1895-1904.

Description

This wall plate was made by the Faience and Tile Factory Holland from the city of Utrecht in The Netherlands, made between 1895 and 1904. This factory is also known as Mijnlieff, after its owner and founder, Jan-Willem Mijnlieff. This plate is model 302, a large plate measuring 42.7 cm or 16.8 inch in diameter. The object is painted with a beautiful pattern of butterflies and poppies. The edge is particularly beautiful, with its interplay of butterflies and cornflowers. The colour palette of green, orange, and light turquoise is very attractive. This antique wall charger is clearly signed with the factory logo of Holland Utrecht, an oak leaf containing the initials JM (Jan-Willem Mijnlieff). There is also a “K,” a letter referring to the pottery painter (unknown) or the pattern. You can also see the remains of a sticker, presumably from a shopkeeper. The plate is in good condition; a chip on the edge was restored in the past, but this damage is now completely invisible .

This wall plate is not for sale and belongs to my private collection.
