Holland Utrecht ewer, model 132 of 32 cm high, with a decoration of dragons
Holland Utrecht jug, model 132 of 32 cm high, with a decoration of dragons, made around 1900.
Description
This ewer was made by the Dutch Tile and Faience Factory ‘Holland’ from Utrecht, also known as the ‘Mijnlieff’ pottery company. The object is model 132, a design of 32 cm high or 12.6 inch and 14 cm or 5.5 inch wide. The ewer is painted with a mirrored decoration of two dragons. The dragons are painted in a light gray shade on a background of green, ochre yellow and brown. The object is well signed with the logo of the factory: the oak leaf with the signature of Jan-Willem Mijnlieff (JM). You can also see the numbers 676 and a W. These probably represent work order numbers. More information is carved into the bottom of the jug, such as the model number: M132, an A and the number 734, which probably refers to the kiln run. The ewer is in a neat condition. The ear and spout are in mint condition. Only the foot has a (neatly repaired) fracture. This object used to belong to the Meentwijck Collection.
