Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery firm Jb Vet & Co from the city of Purmerend (near Amsterdam). This factory – founded by brothers Klaas and Jacob Vet – existed only briefly: from 1903 to 1907. This vase must therefore have been made manufactured during this period. The vase is model 112, a very slender vase of 43,2 cm (17 inch) high and 13,5 cm (5.3 inch) wide. The vase has a beautiful polychrome floral decor featuring irises. This decoration is known in Dutch as ‘Bont Floraal’ (Multi-coloured Floral) and is much less common than the decorations consisting of thin blue and yellow lines on a white background (for which Vet became so famous). The vase is clearly marked on the underside. You can see the name: Purmerend and the city’s coat of arms. You can also see a reference to the model and decor number: 112/86. The vase is marked with the signatures of the designer: Jacob Vet (JV) and the pottery painter: Phillipus Lagrand (PL). The vase is in very neat condition. The neck has been restored in the past, which is only visible under UV light. A similar vase (part of the collection of the Municipal Museum in Zwolle) is depicted in the book “Purmerends Jugendstil Aardewerk 1985-1907 – Supplement” on page 124 (see below).
