Rozenburg lidded ‘turban’ vase, designed by Theo Colenbrander, painted in 1888

Rozenburg lidded ‘turban’ vase, designed by Theo Colenbrander, painted in 1888 in a decor named: Groenfond.

Description

This lidded vase has a unique name: the ‘turban pul’. It’s named after the shape of the lid, which is somewhat reminiscent of the oriental headdress. This turban vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Rozenburg in Den Haag (The Hague). This is model 25, designed by Theo Colenbrander. This turban vase is part of a set of objects for a cabinet or mantelpiece. This vase is 25 cm or 8.9 inches high, including the lid. The vase has a light brown background on which an imaginative design is painted in various shades of green and brown. The design is called “Groenfond,” which is noted on the bottom of the vase and also on the inside of the lid. Clear markings are visible on the bottom of the vase. WvG Den Haag is the old name for the pottery company, which only acquired the name Rozenburg in mid-1893. WvG stands for Wilhelm von Gudenburg, a German entrepreneur who founded the factory in 1883. You can also see a D, the date letter for 1888, and some dots, possibly referring to a painter (name unknown). The name of the decoration is also on the bottom: Groenfond. On the bottom of the object and on the underside of the lid, you can see two stickers, which refer to the Meentwijck Collection, to which this object belonged. The lidded vase is in excellent condition; the object is pristine. See the other turban vases in my collection by searching for “turban” in the navigation above.

This turban vase is not for sale and belongs to my private collection.
