Rozenburg vase, model 429, with dragon decor, made in 1898

Description

This vase was made by the Rozenburg pottery factory from The Hague in October 1898. It is model 429, a cylindrical vase of 15.5 cm or 6.1 inch high and 6 cm or 2,3 inch wide at the foot. The vase is painted with the decoration of a dragon. You can clearly see a head with an open mouth full of sharp teeth. The dragon has a snake-shaped body with wings. The decoration is inspired by the work of the French-German illustrator Anton Seder (see illustration below). Even the plant motif is the same. The vase is well signed with the name: Rozenburg Den Haag, the logo of the stork, the year sign of the crown for 1898 and the work order number: 1106. From this we can conclude that the vase was painted by J. van den Bor. The vase is in mint condition.
