Description
This lidded vase was made by the Faience and Tile Factory Holland from Utrecht. This factory only existed for a short time and produced decorative pottery between 1895 and 1904. The factory is also known as ‘Mijnlieff’, after director Jan-Willem Mijnlieff. The object consists of two parts, a vase and a short, pointed lid. They are both painted with an imaginative, floral decor in a wonderful colour scheme: brown, ochre yellow, dark blue, grey and turquoise. The vase is 32.5 cm or 12.8 inch high (with lid) and 12 cm or 4.7 inch wide. A similar vase with the same decoration is depicted in the book: De Collectie Holland on page 123. Only the vase in the book is missing it’s lid.
This lidded vase is signed with the factory logo (oak leaf, with the logo of J.W. Mijnlieff (JM) in it). The number 727 and the E. These are probably work order numbers or decor numbers. The vase is in excellent condition. Only the bottom has some very superficial and minuscule chips, which are not visible on the front. The lid has two hairlines. This is acceptable damage for an object of this age.
