Amphora vase, model 24, with geometric decoration by Theo Verstraaten

Description

This vase was made by the Amphora Holland pottery factory in Oegstgeest around 1910. This vase is tubular in shape with a subtly flared neck, featuring a beautiful geometric decoration in black and dark green against a white background. The decoration was designed by Theo Verstraaten and shares many characteristics with the work of Chris van der Hoef, who was also associated with the Amphora Factory in Oegstgeest as a designer around 1910. Verstraaten is best known for his floral decorations featuring birds. It is all the more remarkable to see some minimalistic work from him for a change. The vase is 26.8 cm or 10.6 inches high and 7.4 cm or 2.9 inches wide. On the bottom, the vase is clearly marked with the name of the factory: Amphora Holland, the model and decoration number: 24-3, the name of the designer: Th. Verstraaten, and the signature of an unknown pottery painter: JV. The vase is in good condition. A hairline crack on the inside of the neck has been professionally and invisibly restored.
