Description
This vase was made by the Dutch Faience and Tile Factory ‘Holland’ from Utrecht; this maker is also known by the name ‘Mijnlieff’, after owner and founder Jan-Willem Mijnlieff. It was made in the period between 1895 and 1904. This is model 181, a small square vase with slanted sides that taper into a short, round neck. The object is 20,5 cm or 8 inch high and 11,3 cm or 4.4 inch wide and painted with a colourful floral decoration featuring flowers and flower buds. Butterflies are visible in the decoration on the neck. The vase is well marked on the bottom. You can see a stamp with the model number: 181. You can also see the logo of the Holland Utrecht factory: the oak leaf, containing the monogram of JW Mijnlieff: JM. Furthermore, you can see a few other markings on the bottom: D343 and an H or CH. These are presumably the work order number and the signature of an unknown ceramic painter. The vase is in neat condition. Only two tiny chips are visible on the rim of the neck, one of which has been glued in place (see photos, greatly magnified).
