Description
This vase was made in January 1901 by the Dutch pottery factory Rozenburg from The Hague (Den Haag). It is made of eggshell porcelain, a wafer-thin and almost translucent ceramic, introduced by Rozenburg at the World Exhibition in Paris in April 1900. This vase is model 155p, a round vase with a square neck, 11.3 cm (4.4 inch) high and 5.2 cm (2 inch) wide. The vase is very delicately painted with birds, partridges or pheasants, inspired by Asian Art. The beautiful color combination of dark red, golden yellow, and green is striking. The vase is well signed. You can see the logo of The Hague pottery factory Rozenburg, the year mark for 1901 in the shape of an ant and the work order number: 35. In the work order books – which have been preserved in the The Hague Municipal Archives – it can be seen that this vase was painted in January by J.P. Verhoog. The vase has undergone a very professional restoration at the back of the body in the past. A crack there has been neatly repaired. This is not visible to the naked eye from the outside. Please note that the top of the neck is a little lobsided.
