Rozenburg ‘Turban pul’, model 25 designed by Theodoor Colenbrander from 1889

Rozenburg lidded vase or ‘Turban pul’, model 25 with decoration ‘Pauweveer’, designed by Theodoor Colenbrander from 1889

Description

This lidded vase was made by the Dutch pottery factory Rozenburg from The Hague. It is a so-called ‘turban pul’, model 25, designed by Theodoor Colenbrander. Such a turban pul was often part of a set of objects for on a cupboard or a mantelpiece. This object is 25 cm or 8.9 inches high, including the lid. The object has a beige background on which an imaginative decoration is painted in various shades of grey and brown. The decoration is called ‘Pauweveer’ (translation: Peacock’s feather), as can be read on the bottom of the object and also on the inside of the lid. On the bottom of the object you can see clear markings. WvG Den Haag is the old designation for the Haagse Plateelfabriek, which only got the name Rozenburg halfway through 1893. WvG stands for Wilhelm von Gudenburg, a German entrepreneur who founded the factory. You can also see an E, the year letter for 1889 and three dots, which possibly refer to a painter (name unknown). Also the name of the decoration on the bottom: Pauweveer. The turban pul is in great condition. Only the bottom of the lid has a few tiny flakes. But otherwise both the vase and the lid are in free of any damage or restoration.
This turban mug is not for sale and belongs to my private collection.
