Description

This bowl was made by the Faïance and Tile company ‘Holland’ from the city of Utrecht. This factory is also known as Mijnlieff, named after director and owner Jan-Willem Mijnlieff, who ran the factory between 1895 and 1905. Because the bowl is not dated, the date of manufacture has been estimated as: ‘around 1900’. The bowl has a diameter of 17.2 cm (6.7 inches) and a height of 5 cm (1.96 inches). The bowl is painted on both the outside and the inside with a floral motif in lovely pastels, such as lilac, light gray and light green tones, against a beige background. The bottom is dark green. The bowl is well signed with the logo of the Holland Utrecht factory: the oak leaf with the signature JM (Jan-Willem Mijnlieff). You will also see the number .377 (work order or serial number) and the abbreviation AF at the bottom. This may refer to Albert Froon, an employee who worked at the factory from 1870 (at the predecessor of Holland Utrecht) until 1898. The bowl is completely intact, except for a few irregularities in the glaze, especially on the inside (see photo).
Elsewhere in the store there is a similar model with a different decor (see last photos).
