Rozenburg The Hague eggshell porcelain vase, nearly 10 cm high, from 1901

Description

This small vase was made by the Rozenburg pottery company from Den Haag (The Hague) in September 1901. This is model 203, a small vase 9.8 cm or 3.8 inch high and 5.2 cm or 2 inch wide with a square base, a round neck, and a slight curve in the four panels of the body. As small as the vase is, the painting is equally refined. You can see yellow flowers (possibly lilies) and flower buds against a background of minuscule painted circles. All the colors are exceptionally bright.
The painter is Jan van der Vet. He also signed the vase himself. In the Rozenburg work order books, which have been preserved in the Municipal Archives of The Hague, the name of Sam Schellink, who possibly designed the decoration, also appears next to this work order number. On the bottom of the vase are the words: Rozenburg Den Haag. You can also see an ant, the year mark for 1901, the work order number: 905, and the signature of Jan van der Vet: JvdV. The small vase is in neat condition. A small chip and a hairline crack on the neck have been professionally restored. Nothing of this is visible now.
