Description

This vase was produced by the Dutch pottery firm Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co from Purmerend in 1897. This is model 1058, a vase with two striking ears, which extend above the neck in two sharp points. A great design of 26 cm or 10.2 inch high and 22 cm or 8.6 inch wide. The vase is decorated with a white poppy on a background of green leaves. Striking are the yellow colour areas, which are completely made up of little crosses and the beautiful hatching along the base of the neck. The vase is well signed with the logo of the Purmerend pottery factory Brantjes. You can read the words: Faience de Purmerende Hollande. You can also see the model number: 1058, the decor number: B. The logo of the factory (clog + NB, the initials of Nicolaas Brantjes) and the C for the year 1897. On the left side of the marking is the signature of the painter Jabob Vet (JV). The vase is in a neat condition. Presumably one of the ears was damaged and restored. That was done very neatly and invisible to the naked eye. In the collection I have the same vase with a brown background (see photo).
