Description

This ewer from the Dutch Pottery Factory Zuid-Holland from Gouda is made in 1898, the first year the factory was in production. The object is marked with the logo of the factory, the sign A for the decor and the number 31, for the model. The ewer is 22 cm or 8,6 inch high. The object is in excellent condition and has a decoration of purple flowers on a brown and dark turquoise background. The decor is painted on the biscuit by hand and the coloured areas therefore have a transparent characteristic, more like watercolours. The brown clay is also still visible. All characteristics of very early Gouda pottery. The painter’s name is Adriaan Lansaat (AL), who worked at the factory from 1898 to 1907.
