Gouda pottery vase model 190 of 33 cm high with a P-decoration of butterflies by Leendert Muller
Description
This vase was made by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH) from Gouda in the period 1901-1904. The vase has model 190, a bottle-shaped design of 33 cm or 13 inch high and 13 cm or 5.1 inch wide. The vase is painted with a P-decor with flowers and butterflies. The P-decoration (the P refers to ‘porcelain’) was introduced by PZH in 1901 in response to the success of the eggshell porcelain of the factory’s main competitor: Rozenburg Den Haag. This is a P/a decor. You can see that on the bottom of the vase. There is also the logo of the Gouda plateel factory: the Lazarus gate. You can also see the words: Made in Zuid-Holland and the signature of the painter: Leendert Muller (LM). The model number is also stamped in the bottom of the vase: 190. The vase is a very good example of how fresh and lively P-decorations from Gouda can be. Sometimes the colours are a bit soft, like pastels. But with this vase they really pop! That means that the vase has had a very successful kiln run. The vase is also in mint condition!
