Pair of very early Gouda pottery vases, model 41 of 5 inches high, made in 1898-1899

Description

This is a pair of very early Gouda pottery vases. The vases are 12.8 cm or 5 inches high and are painted with a decor of red flowers on a green and black background. We know that these are very early examples, made by the Zuid-Holland pottery factory, because the vases are signed by Johannes Stam, who worked in Gouda in the period between April 1898 and May 1899 (and later again after 1902). The vases are in good condition, one of the two has undergone a professional restoration of a chip on the neck, but this is not visible to the naked eye.
